Inspiration is often one of the most important and useful gifts a leader can give to the people they are leading.
Take a moment to think about the people that have inspired you throughout your life, it could be your parents, teachers, coaches, friend, sibling, neighbor, an artist, or an athlete, etc. (the list is practically endless). There are countless individuals in leadership positions like parents, coaches, and teachers that inspire us or push us to do our best everyday. There might even be individuals that you have never met (athletes, artists, etc.) that inspire you.

Watch the videos below and choose ONE discussion question below to post an answer for. Make sure to tell me what question number you are doing & to use TEN COMPLETE sentences. Click 'Read More' to view the videos.-

1) Compare and contrast the videos. Explain how each video is inspirational in its own way but, also how they are inspirationally different.

2) Find your own inspirational video and post it. Provide an explanation of why that video/clip is inspirational.

3) Post about two different people in your life that have inspired you. Explain how they've both inspired you in different ways and how they have helped you. *Use one person inside of your family and one person outside of your family (coach, teacher, etc.).

** Remember to get full credit your post HAS to be at least TEN sentences and be grammatically correct.

After all that we have been discussing in class about self presentation and ways to positively portray ourselves to other people, I would like for you to think of other ways that certain individuals present themselves to the world, outside of just through social media sites. One easy example could be clothing or attitude toward other people/ how you treat other people.
Provide some examples of how well known people present themselves to the world. Come up with examples of how people in certain types of careers or celebrities/other well known individuals portray themselves in a positive way. Teachers, President Obama, and police officers are examples of people that typically do their best to make positive impressions by having good self presentation. You could also provide examples of negative self presentation (you can do this by giving examples of specific people and/or situations, or completely hypothetical situations).  Try to give at least one positive and one negative example, make sure that you EXPLAIN your examples.
Conclude your post by telling me, why we need to always be aware of the way that we present ourselves and why it even matters/ why it is important.

Cyber Bullying

  1. Recently in the news a sophomore at a Michigan High School made headlines for a ‘prank’ that fellow students played on her. Last Monday she found out that she had been nominated as a class representative for homecoming. The girl posted on facebook that she was “So happy to be nominated :D” only to find out a few hours later through facebook comments that her nomination was a joke, a prank played on her by some of the other kids at the school. They did this because, they thought it would be ‘funny’ to see her get excited about being nominated. These students had the assumption that everyone else in the school would know that it was a joke and that no one would vote for her to win and people would make fun of her. The football player who was nominated with her even dropped out of the race for representative. The girl received mean facebook messages and comments from her school peers all week. How would you handle this situation if you were any of the following people: (choose at least 3)

A. The girl that was nominated as a joke.
B. The Principal of the school.
C. The Mother/Father of the girl nominated.
D. A member of the community that the high school was in.
E. One of the students that nominated her as a joke.
F. A local business owner.
G. A local police official.
H. The school board superintendent.
I. Any other individual you think is important.

Remember, ALL posts need to contain at least 10 full/complete sentences.
Traditional Bullying

1.  A 7th grade girl is repeatedly picked on and made fun of during her homeroom by several other girls.  It is clear that this bothers the girl, but neither the students nor the teacher do much to stop it.  The girl complains to her friends, but doesn’t say much to her parents or the principals.  Near the end of the year, the girl has been so humiliated that she finally tells her parents about the mean things the girls have done to her all year. Her parents decide to buy a house in a new public school zone so their daughter can go to a different school. The parents decide to sue different individuals involved in the problem at the school and take the case before a judge,  in order to pay for their moving expenses.

A.  If you were the judge in this case, how would you assign responsibility and provide an explanation for each:

___% girls who made fun of her
___% other students in homeroom
___% homeroom teacher
___% school administration
___% girl who was being bullied

B.  As the judge and jury, when you provide a verdict in this case, please provide 1) a lecture to the individuals involved and 2) advice on how to prevent this in the future

I'm going to start posting TWO discussion topics every week so that you all can choose which of the two you would rather comment on. This should allow us to have more in class discussions and give you all more options so that you can write the best post you can!

It’s easy to say, “Peer pressure doesn’t have any effect on me.”. However, the truth is, what people think of us can often influence how we think and act (or don’t act) as human beings. Peer pressure is common to everyone in every stage of life from childhood to adulthood.  Please answer the following questions about peer pressure thoroughly and to the best of you ability, remember you need at LEAST 10 COMPLETE sentences. Answer all questions:

1. A student copied down the answers to a test and then offered them to students taking the same test later that day.  Would it even cross your mind to turn this person in?  What if that person was your best friend, could/would you turn them in? Would you accept these answers and cheat?

2. If you saw a friend teasing or picking on another student because they were overweight, not ‘cool’ enough, wore a different style of clothes, or even had some type of physical/mental disability, would you say or do anything to stop them?  If so, what?

3. Can peer pressure ever be a POSITIVE thing? Explain why or why not and give an example.

4. One of the effects of peer pressure is that it is often the cause of bullying. What are some of your ideas on how you as an individual could help put a stop to bullying? (Remember to use complete sentences.)

1.  Mattie Stepanek lived his life knowing that because of his disease his life would not be very long and he needed to live his life to the fullest while he could. Imagine what you would want people to say about the person that you are right now if you knew that, three people were going to stand up and speak about you (family member, friend and a teacher).  Write down who they are and what you would want each of them to say about you.

Person A:  _________________

                     (family member)

Person B:  _________________

                           (friend)

Person C:  _________________

                          (teacher)

2. Imagine that like Mattie, you knew you needed to make your life count right now and answer the following questions. (remember that this was how he lived everyday).

      A) Who would you want to be with during your time on earth?

      B) Would you change your current behavior or treat others differently? Whether
you would or would not explain why.

      C) What “one thing” would you like to accomplish in your lifetime?
